USS Gerald R. Ford: Most Powerful Aircraft Carrier in the World today
The USS Gerald R. Ford is the most technologically advanced warship ever built, the US Navy's newest carrier-class carrier, and the most expensive warship in US history, just breaking the $13 billion spending limit set by Congress.
The US Navy's most expensive warships are becoming more expensive because of the need to repair previously undisclosed failures at sea.
An additional $120 million will be needed to repair the carrier's damaged Advanced Weapons Elevator used to transport ammunition from the lower deck to the top, as well as to repair the bearings of the Ford propulsion system, which were damaged during sea trials.
